It is to be announced that the DVLA are to trial a new style number plate later this year.
The number plate will look similar to the current format, with the addition of a QR code.
A QR code would be issued to the owner of a vehicle upon registration, which would then have to be displayed on the vehicle's number plates.
Your car will be providing information such as your the route you take on the daily commute, what time you travel, the average speed of your journey, the shops and petrol stations you use regularly as well as ALL of your personal details.
The DVLA and law enforcement agencies would then be able to use the data for traffic monitoring & crime prevention. Targeting driving offences as well as MOT, insurance and car tax avoidance.
It is believed that, for a fee, private companies will be able to access the information to their customers and potential new customers.
A spokesperson from the DVLA was unavailable for comment.
